Mid-Iowa Habitat for Humanity

Contributions are needed to complete our mission. We do not borrow money to build houses. The majority of our funding comes right from our local community. It takes an average of $90,000 to build a house in the four counties we serve. Current Habitat homeowners’ monthly mortgage payments also go into our “Fund for Humanity” which goes toward building more houses here in Jasper, Marshall, Poweshiek and Tama Counties, Iowa. Keep in mind that donations may be tax deductible. Speak to your tax advisor for details.

Ways you can make a contribution.

- Donate land or sell at a reduced price!

• A large part of the cost of a new home is the land. Donations of building lots helps us keep our costs lower.

- Donate gifts-in-kind!

• If you have excess building materials, check with us to see if we can use them.
• If we can’t use your gift-in-kind, consider donating it to the Greater Des Moines Habitat ReStore. Mention it comes from Mid-Iowa County and we’ll get part of the income from its sale. Give us a call for further details.

- Donate money!

• You can mail your monetary donations to our office - call for details.
• You can now donate online!. To make a secure monetary donation online please click here and enter our Habitat affiliate, your contact information, credit card number, and information pertaining to gift cards you wish sent to announce your donation.

- Give a donation in someone’s name.

• Perfect for birthdays, anniversaries, memorials, etc.

- Involve your employer!

• Many businesses have employee volunteer and matching gift programs. Ask if there’s one where you work.

- Include Habitat in your will!

• A gift made through your will can leave a lasting effect on many families for years to come. Please contact us for further details.

- Donate your car!

• Habitat has a program called Cars for Homes. Donate your car, truck, boat, or RV – running or not!
• Simply go online (carsforhomes.org) or call toll free (877-277-4344) and follow the easy instructions for title and donation paperwork. Make sure to indicate Mid-Iowa as your affiliate.
• Habitat International will tow and sell the vehicle and Mid-Iowa Habitat for Humanity receives the net proceeds to build homes!
